JOWAI: West Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner, Garod LSN Dykes, on Tuesday said that he and his counterpart from West Karbi Anglong, Assam, have decided to start promoting trade and commerce in the area so that it will help bolster the bond between the people from both sides.
Dykes said this while speaking to the media persons after a deputy commissioner-level joint border meeting, which was held at the conference room of Soil and Water Conservation Office, Jowai. He said the deputy commissioners of both the districts conferred about the ongoing developmental works in the area and that the border dispute should not interfere with the works. It was also decided that community-level meetings between villages from both sides should be held from time to time, and that the DCs will initiate this process.
Trade and commerce in the area will be promoted, with a special focus on local products, Dykes said.
