SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) Women’s Wing has demanded that the four persons, who were accused of inciting communal hatred in the state, be arrest while also stating that there has been no discrimination towards the non-tribals in Meghalaya.
The HNYF women wing held a programme at U Soso Tham auditorium on Tuesday to discuss the Ichamati incident that has caused a stir in the state lately.
The placards which were displayed read, “Down with religious fanaticism”, “Respect, restrain, do not provoke”, “No communal colour on Ichamati incident”, “We want peace”, “United Bengal Liberation Army, we are ready”, “Arrest these Fanatics — Prantush Sarkar, Mridul Das, Binayak Roy and Vickey Dey”.
President of the organisation, Bety Jyrwa questioned as to why no arrests have been made so far.
On the alleged threats from the so-called “United Bengal Liberation Army”, Jyrwa said that the people of the state would be ready to take up arms if it continues. “We will also take up arms if such a crisis arises but then it should stop because we want peace. Nevertheless, do not provoke us or a time will come when men, women, young and old will have to come out”, she said.
On the other hand, vice president of the group, Victoria Marwein said that even many Khasis come out to celebrate festivals such as Durga Puja and Diwali as well as Muharram.
Speaking about the four accused of communal instigation, she said, “They are to be arrested. Enough is enough”.
