NONGSTOIN: The Office of the West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner in collaboration with PHE department, District Water and Sanitation Mission (JJM) and Basin Development Unit, WKH, celebrated the River Festival 2020 (Ganga Utsav) on Wednesday
West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa, during the programme, informed that the objective of the celebration is to raise awareness on the need for keeping the rivers clean, to stress on preservation of ecology and environment by conducting various activities, and to pledge for rejuvenation and conservation of the rivers.
Lyngwa also exhorted the participants to set an example by becoming active in developing environment-safety measures and to encourage others to keep their nearby surroundings safe and clean.
RS Nongbri, Superintendent Engineer, PHE, Nongstoin, stressed on the need of water, highlighted the effects of river pollution and other phenomena that impact the environment.
It may be mentioned that the programme was participated by officials and staff of PHE department, District Water and Sanitation Mission (JJM), office of Basin Development Unit, volunteers of Nongstoin Nature Club and locals of Nongstoin C&RD Block.
During the programme, a cleaning drive of River Nonbah, song composing competition and a pledge-taking ceremony was held.
The winners of the competition were also awarded by the DC during the programme.
