SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Assembly, on Thursday, approved the government resolution for taking over the administration of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) by the Governor with effect from October 19 for six months or until the constitution of the new Council through election, whichever is earlier. Minister in charge of District Council Affairs (DCA), Lahkmen Rymbui, moved the government resolution during the Autumn Session on Thursday.
Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik had, on October 13, imposed the Administrator’s Rule in the GHADC, whose current elected dispensation’s term was coming to an end on October 18.
The general election to reconstitute the Council could not be held due to the pandemic, hence the Administrator’s Rule.
