Border residents enrolled again after ‘pause’

NONGSTOIN: Coming as a blessing in disguise for villagers from Mawiamsyiem near Langpih, the voters have been included in the electoral roll of Meghalaya after being kept out of it earlier.
Speaking about the matter, Mawiamsyiem headman P Nongshlong said that the villagers were excluded from the list of voters since 2009. “Since 2008, the villagers of Mawiamsyiem have been neglected in all aspects, especially their right to vote,” the headman said.
Nongshlong elaborated that following the submission of relevant documents to West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner’s office in 2018, the BDO of Mawshynrut conducted an inquiry and subsequently in August, 2020, the villagers of Mawiamsyiem were enrolled again.
