New Delhi: Minority organisations in Bangladesh and the Ministry of External Affairs have taken up the recent spurt of violence against both the tribals and non-tribals in the comparatively secular country in this part of the sub-continent.
The Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikyo Parishad, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad, Bangladesh Hindu League, and several other minority organisations held a protest demonstration in Dhaka on Saturday against the human rights violation of minorities in the country.
The minority organisations demanded the implementation of their 7-point charter of demands including the enactment of the minority protection law.
India has taken up with Bangladeshi authorities the issue of violence targeting Hindu families in Bangladesh’s Comilla district and the matter is being probed by the authorities there, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday. Some radical Islamists vandalised and set on firehouses of several Hindu families in Bangladesh’s Comilla district earlier this week over rumours about an alleged Facebook post slandering Islam.
The demands include reservation of 20 per cent seats for minorities and appointment of minorities at all levels of administration. The organisations were protesting the incidents of attack on minority communities from some parts of Bangladesh.
Protests were held in Chattogram under the banner of the Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Oikyo Parishad. Earlier, International Indigenous Peoples’ Movement for Self-Determination and Liberation (IPMSDL), a reputed NGO in a statement highlighted the plight of minority tribals in the CHT area.
The Bangladesh Government has taken up this incident and informed that the authorities have looked at this incident very seriously and the law enforcement authorities there are investigating the outbreak of violence.
They also continue to remain vigilant to prevent any untoward disturbances, MEA sources added.
