Govt admits to missing bridges under PMGSY

SHILLONG [Nov 10]: The state government, on Tuesday, admitted on the floor of the House that there are many missing bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
This statement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong while replying to a query raised by Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on the measures taken by the state government to take care of the missing bridges. Tynsong cited the case of missing bridges on the southern bank of Simsang River under Samanda C&RD Block.
Assuring to take appropriate measures, the deputy chief minister informed that under phase-I and phase-II of the PMGSY scheme, there are a number of cases of missing bridges.
Informing that the state will soon enter into phase-III of the scheme, Tynsong said that he has discussed the issue with all the officers involved and directed them to look into it.
Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Ampati, Miani D Shira, questioned the department for not sanctioning projects for South West Garo Hills and West Garo Hills.
In reply, the deputy chief minister said that under PMGSY phase-II, there are specific guidelines and qualification required and both the districts did not qualify.
Furthermore, he informed that all the 22 projects submitted by the state government have been approved by the Union Ministry. The deputy chief minister also informed that under phase-II of the scheme within Samanda Block in East Garo Hills, Rs 10.54 crore was sanctioned for construction activities.
He, however, added that work has not commenced since the notice to proceed with the work is yet to be issued.
