TURA, Nov 11: The SSA teachers from Garo Hills under the banner of the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) on Wednesday staged a sit-in demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in Tura, demanding the immediate release of their pending salaries.
The demonstration comes two days after Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said during the ongoing Assembly sessions that the government will ensure that dispensing of salaries, pensions and grants-in-aid for schools are not affected during the crisis brought about by the pandemic.
During the demonstrations on Wednesday, the teachers were seen holding placards and banners that read ‘no pay, no work’, ‘teachers cannot work on empty stomach’, ‘SSA teachers are also teachers, do not neglect us’.
It may be mentioned that the teachers had earlier shot off several memorandums to the state government over the delay in release of salaries, only to fall on deaf ears.
