SHILLONG, Nov 14: United Democratic Party, (UDP) General Secretary, Jemino Mawthoh, on Friday stated that the brick-batting, allegations and counter allegations, what is factual and what is false, what is justified and what is not, does not really address the social reality and the real issues that are confronting the state.
He said this while reacting to the dissatisfaction expressed by the Opposition Congress in the reply of the state government on the various issues that were raised and discussed in the autumn session of the state Assembly that concluded on Thursday.
Stating that playing to the gallery does not ameliorate the plight of the marginalised, Mawthoh said, “The urban and rural poor, the unemployed, the farmers, the BPL… People’s woes continue”.
“It is ironic, but this is the dilemma, this is the situation,” he added.
Stressing on the need to be truthful, realistic and practical, he observed that if these are not maintained, the system will collapse.
He further said that more focus should be laid on providing more social security for people in terms of education, health, employment and more futuristic plans for the state in all important areas.
The five-day autumn session of the Meghalaya Assembly which concluded on Thursday, witnessed fair discussions on issues ranging from illegal mining and transportation of coal, illegalities in the Power department, interstate boundary issues, COVID-19 management and a no-confidence motion.
While the ruling MDA coalition made efforts to reply to the queries raised, it, however, seems to have fallen short to satisfy the Opposition Congress.
