NONGSTOIN, Nov 16: Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF) and National Newborn Week 2020 were launched at the office of the District Medical and Health Officer, West Khasi Hills, on Monday.
During the programme, West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner T Lyngwa stressed on the importance of maternal and child health.
He also mentioned that one of the diseases contributing to child deaths are diarrhea and pneumonia which could be easily averted if proper care is taken. The DC also said that ASHAs could provide education to parents on how to take care of children and newborn at the community level. He reiterated that most of the maternal and newborn deaths happened due to unsafe home deliveries.
