SGH DC seeks stakeholders’ cooperation to implement NTCP
TURA, Nov 18: South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner HB Marak has called for cooperation from the stakeholders to facilitate the implementation of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) in the district. Marak, who is also the chairman of the District Health Society, has reiterated his concerns over the fatalities caused due to excessive use of tobacco. The SGH DC was speaking at a district level coordination committee meeting on NTCP, which was held on Wednesday at District Resource Center NIC Building Baghmara. Marak also highlighted the need to take steps to prevent unwanted exposure to tobacco smoke by people.

Plea to reconduct BPL survey
TURA, Nov 18: The All Meghalaya Minority Students’ Union (AMMSU) has beseeched the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner to reconduct a survey of all households in the plains of Garo Hills and identify the BPL families who were earlier left behind. “The BPL is a benchmark of the Government of India to indicate economic disadvantages and to identify individuals and households in need of government assistance and aid. The BPL families are based on the survey conducted way back in 2002 and we want a fresh survey to be conducted to include those who may have been left behind,” president of AMMSU, Nur Islam Sk, said.

Catholic seminary in GH contained
TURA, Nov 18: The St Peter Seminary at Chitoktak in Tura was on Wednesday declared a containment zone by the West Garo Hills District Administration. The area lies close to Cherangre locality that has been sealed since Tuesday after multiple COVID-19 cases were detected.
