SHILLONG/TURA, Nov 20: A web technology-based app, going by the name ‘Eprison’, was on Friday inaugurated at the Tura district jail by Inspector General of Police of Prisons, M Kharkrang, in the presence of police officials and team from the National Informatics Centre.
The app will store the details of prisoners which can be shared with other prisons, judiciary and police. As the system takes biometrics of the prisoners, there will be less chance of impersonating and furnishing false address and names.
In addition, the system would also incorporate medical history, court appearance and every other detail of the prisoner.
“This latest IT set-up is aimed at helping administrators of the state Prison department and will reduce the burden of the government agencies and duplicity. It shall also reduce the delay in processing the information. This will also automate processes and functions convenient and transparent services to all the stakeholders through ICT,” said Kharkrang.
The Eprison has been developed using latest tools with functional modules like management system, visitor management system, police information system, website of all the jails and others integrated in it.
Apart from Tura district jail, the three other district jails including Shillong, Jowai and Nongpoh are already covered under Eprison application.
