SHILLONG, Nov 23: A child-friendly anganwadi centre was inaugurated at Mawdiangdiang by the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawpat C&RD Block.
Called ‘My Anganwadi: A model (mini) Anganwadi Centre’, it was inaugurated in the presence of Nongthymmai MLA Charles Pyngrope and East Khasi Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo.
Mawpat BDO, Monica Kshir, had mobilised support for the centre in order to make it a safe, attractive and welcoming place for children, while exhibiting model features for cleanliness, sanitation, waste management, organic nutritional support through nutri-garden, early stimulation activities, infant games and play materials as crucial for all-round development of children in their formative years.
The centre is a result of active convergence between MGNREGS, Social Welfare department, Civic Action Programme 2019 of CRPF 67Bn, Fisheries department, SBM-G, VEC, the community and contributions from individuals.
The highlights of the inauguration programme were the health camp for children conducted by NEIAH, self-help group (SHG) sale counter by four SHGs from Lapalang, kitchen garden by VEC, donation box for upkeep of the centre, Mawpat. Moreover, an aquarium was donated by the Directorate of Fisheries while story books were donated by New Book Store, Laitumkhrah, and Khasi Book Agency, Mawkhar.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Monday took to social media and acknowledged the joint efforts in ensuring that the anganwadi centre sees the light of the day.
“The convergent efforts of MGNREGS, Social Welfare and Fisheries departments, CRPF 67Bn, SBM-G, VEC and the community has resulted in the setting up of a model Mini Anganwadi Centre at Mawdiangdiang called ‘My Anganwadi’ — a child-friendly space with model features for cleanliness, sanitation, waste management, organic nutritional support through nutri-garden, and early stimulation activities, infant games and play materials crucial for all-round development of children in their formative years. Congratulations to the entire team on a job well done!” the chief minister said on Facebook.
