TURA, Nov 23: West Garo Hills Police on Monday rescued a minor girl and reunited her with her family.
The 16-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by one Habibur Islam (over 30 years), a resident of Koilaghat village under Phulbari police station, with an intention of forcibly marrying her.
Islam, who is already married and hid his marital status, was trying to woo the girl for many months with a promise of marriage.
Unable to get his way, he allegedly lured the girl out of her house on some pretext and kidnapped her.
The family subsequently approached the police, who soon located the girl and the accused in a hideout, thereby taking Islam into custody. She was safely reunited with her family the same evening.
In almost all such cases in Garo Hills, the accused are already married and target young girls.
