NONGSTOIN, Nov 24: Concerned after receiving complaints about the reportedly non-functional veterinary hospital at Aradonga in West Khasi Hills bordering Assam, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia & Garo People (FKJGP), Aradonga area unit, on Tuesday, conducted an inspection of the hospital.
The locals complained that the hospital was abandoned for a very long time.
During the inspection, the FKJGP members discerned that the hospital had been shut for many years and there were no staff to look after or maintain the office.
It was also learned that the staff quarters of the hospital was also badly damaged in the absence of people.
Stating that the functioning of the hospital is crucial for cattle farmers, the FKJGP said, “We have serious concerns over the non-functioning of the hospital since thousands of cattle were transported to West Khasi Hills through Aradonga and Athiabari route, without proper check-up, since the outbreak of  African Swine Fever in Assam”.
