SHILLONG, Nov 24: The Meghalaya Joint Council of Trade Unions & Associations (MJCTUA), a conglomeration of trade unions and associations in the state, have called upon the employees and workers from various sectors to go on a single-day general strike on November 26 along with the rest of country.
The MJCTUA has endorsed the call of Central Trade Unions & Independent Service Federations, which had called for the strike in opposition to the “anti-working class policies” of the Government of India.
The strikers demand of the Centre to implement measures to control the staggering price rise of all commodities, prices of which have been soaring continuously; cash transfer of Rs 7,500 per month to all non-income tax paying families; expansion of MGNREGA -200 days’ work in a year in rural areas at enhanced wages and extension of employment guarantee to urban areas; withdrawal of all anti-farmer laws and anti-worker labour codes; Stoppage of privatisation of public sector; withdrawal of the draconian circular on forced premature retirement of government & PSU employees; provision of pension to all, which means scrapping NPS and restoring earlier pension and improve EPS-95; revival of the public distribution system (PDS) and bring more essential item under the system; zero per cent GST on life-saving drugs etc.
