SHILLONG, Nov 26: The employees of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) wore black flags on Thursday in protest against the move of the Centre to privatise the power sector.
The employees, under the banner of Coordination Committee of Registered MeECL Employees Association, said that if the power sector is privatised it will affect the people as electricity bills will start to skyrocket.
Moreover, vice president of the association, Arju Dkhar, informed that the employees will abstain from work if the salary pertaining to November is not released before December 5.
The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Engineers and Employees and All India Power Engineers Federation had called for the protest across the country.
