SHILLONG, Nov 30: Following the commotion over the alleged assault of HNYF-NR president Marcus Marten in Nongpoh, a complaint was registered against three members of the Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) by one Elizabeth Marten, who was also allegedly assaulted during the scuffle on November 27.
Elizabeth is the sister of Marcus Marten.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Elizabeth said her brother, who is also the president of Nongpoh Region Auto Owners & Driver Association, questioned the HYC members for trying to put up flags in the auto rickshaws as part of the demonstration over ILP by the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO).
An argument ensued later.
Elizabeth reportedly attempted to separate her brother from the HYC leaders during the scuffle but was herself assaulted instead.
“I was protecting my brother from them but they assaulted me and pulled me. In the process, my clothes were also torn”, she said, while elucidating that Hercules Suting, Jason Nongrum and Mission Tron of HYC assaulted her and her brother Marcus Marten.
Meanwhile, president of Hynniewtrep HNYF Women’s Wing, Betty Jyrwa, while condemning the incident, said that the organisation will soon approach the Meghalaya State Commission for Women.
