NONGPOH, Dec 2: The Ri Bhoi District Magistrate has prohibited the plying of heavy vehicles — more than 20 (twenty) MT — on the road atop the Umiam Concrete Dam.
The order comes in the view of the damage inflicted upon the two spillway bridges (Main Dam bridge, Umiam). “Further, two successive vehicles moving in the same direction should maintain enough nose to tail distance to avoid two vehicles crossing the spillway bridge at the same time,” the directive said.
