‘Five accused in Ichamati violence are juveniles’

SHILLONG, Dec 7: A plea of juvenility has been filed before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class at Sohra by five accused persons who were arrested in connection with Ichamati public disorder case and the resultant death of one person.
The counsel for the five accused, M Haque, said on Monday, that an issue of juvenility has been raised in the background that the incident in which the accused persons were alleged to be involved occurred on February 28 this year and as such on the date of the incident, they had not attained the age of 18 years.
The counsel further filed the documents pertaining to their age before the court.
Haque said that the five accused for whom the plea has been moved includes Rajen Das, Lokhindra Koch, Babu Baidya, Sujoy Debnath and Vivek Debnath.
