SHILLONG, Dec 9: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday, asserted that Mawdiangdiang and its adjoining areas will become a centre of governance in years to come with more government institutions being set up in the area.
Tynsong, who is also in charge of PWD (Roads), was speaking during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the upgrade of Shillong-Diengpasoh Road.
The road is among the 10 projects selected under Phase-I sanctioned under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP).
As part of the improvement, the existing single-lane road would be converted into a two-lane corridor with a total length of 11.769 km.
Funded by the World Bank, this project will include widening, metalling and black-topping, besides it will also connect Shillong, New Shillong Township and Shillong Bypass.
In a meeting held at Mawdiangdiang Football Ground, Tynsong said that once completed, the road will strategically transform the core road network in Meghalaya.
