SHILLONG, Dec 13: Aggrieved over the non-release of pending salaries, the SSA teachers of Meghalaya under the banner of Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA) Central Body, will launch a ‘Post Card Campaign’ to Prime Minister’s Office starting December 15 through offline and online modes to protest against the Centre’s delay in releasing their salaries, which has been pending for five months.
In a statement issued here, the Association informed that the matter was brought to the notice of concerned authorities multiple times.
During a recent meeting between the Association and State Project Director, SEMAM-SSA, the latter informed the teachers that due to the delay on part of the Ministry of Education in releasing the first instalment to Meghalaya, SEMAM-SSA is not in a position to pay the SSA teachers their dues.
The State Project Director also said that despite all requirements met by the state government and convening several meetings with officials of the Education Ministry, there was no headway in the release of funds, the statement said.
SEMAM-SSA is trying to ensure that the salaries are released before Christmas, it added.
The Association further informed that after a recent talk with an official of SEMAM-SSA, it was discerned that the fund is lying with the Ministry of Education and that if the Ministry fails to release it within two or three days, the teachers may not receive the salaries before Christmas, as pushed for.
