SHILLONG, Dec 18: The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Southern Ri War circle, has written to the Border Security Force (BSF), Umpling, complaining about the rampant smuggling of rice by smugglers from Meghalaya.
The organisation said that the smuggling is being carried out along the Khasi and Jaintia border districts bordering Bangladesh and also claimed that the rice is not meant for export in any form.
It further alleged that smuggling is being carried out via Lyngkhat, Pyrdiwah, by crossing river Borhir in East Khasi Hills, while in Jaintia Hills, the activity happens at Dawki-Balur, Riah Jalong, all the way to Muktapur.
The HNYF claimed that the smuggling has led to shortage of rice and requested the intervention of the BSF to halt such smuggling.
