SHILLONG, Dec 22: Three years and counting after the completion of the probation period, the fate of nine employees of Meghalaya Tourism hangs in balance with no clear word from the department about regularising their posts as they run pillar to post seeking what is theirs to claim.
The parents of the employees, on the request of anonymity, said the nine of them were recruited in 2017 and it was clearly mentioned that after the completion of one-year probation period, the department might extend it for another six months and they did that.
Informing that they have completed three years now and still there is no effort or word from the department concerning regularisation, one of the aggrieved parents said, “The department should give a clear picture as they are losing years. They were recruited with a promise that they will be regularised after completion of probation but now it seems like they are playing around as there is no response at all”.
“The youngsters should get a proper response as it is about the future of nine of them, who had been recruited three years earlier; after 4-5 years they exceed the prerequisite age and will not be absorbed into any government service,” the parent said.
The parents also informed that their seniors came through the same channel of three-tier interview and they got regularised within two years. “We request the government that the department should follow norms as is laid down by the authorities and regularise their service,” they added.
To a query whether they have taken the matter up with the department, the parents said that on December first week, the employees had a talk with the officials of the department, who had assured them that they will be given a tentative date of regularisation, the parents said, however, till date nothing has been done.
