Man arrested for abducting minor

TURA, Jan 4: A man who forcibly took away a teenage girl from Tura to the neighbouring district of South West Garo Hills has been arrested and the minor reunited with her family.
The mother of the 16-year-old girl filed a police complaint with the women police station in Tura that a 26-year-old man identified as Surabhir Hajong, alias Amit, has forcibly taken her daughter away on December 31.
The accused is reported to be known to the victim and her family.
With the help of Ampati police, the girl was able to be traced and brought back to her family on January 2.
The accused has since been arrested on the charge of abduction of a minor and police investigation is under way to determine the reason for the abduction.
Man held for rape bid
Meanwhile, police from Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division in West Garo Hills district have arrested another man for molesting and attempting to rape a woman on Christmas eve.
The accused, Gilbert Sangma, entered the woman’s house during the early morning and attempted rape.
Unable to get his way, he molested her and fled.
He has since been arrested.
