SHILLONG, Jan 4: The top brasses of the NPP-led MDA government are all set to fly to the national capital carrying a bagful of pending issues.
“ILP and inclusion of Garo and Khasi languages in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution are on top of the agenda. We are committed to pursue these matters with the central government,” informed Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong today while speaking to reporters.
Asked for a date for their proposed visit to the national capital, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “Let the Chief Minister join office. We will sit down and work it out and then visit New Delhi to pursue the pending issues with the central government”.
“We have decided that the pending issues including those concerning development of the state will be settled this year. We are committed as we want to meet the aspirations of the people of the state,” he asserted.
Talking about other pending issues, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “Unfortunately we have the interstate boundary problem but Assam is going to have general elections this year and we will not be able to do anything. Once elections are over, the MDA government will take up the boundary issue.”
It may be mentioned that while the state government has, time and again, expressed its commitment to solving the pending issues, the pressure groups have threatened to intensify their stir if the Centre continues to ignore the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
