SHILLONG, Jan 5: The BSF personnel, who endeavour round the clock to avert smuggling bids along the Indo-Bangla border, usually run into challenges of managing the seized cattle due to dearth of infrastructure, sustenance and wherewithal. However, with time, different organisations and societies have started coming forward to mitigate the problems of the personnel by taking care of the seized cattle.
BSF officials have said that such hurdles began in December 2018 when the Customs department stopped taking over the seized cattle owing to the Supreme Court’s directive.
Only recently, a society of Marwari community extended succour to the BSF who, apart from manning the borders, also tend the seized cattle.
The Hariman Prabhat Feri Mandal, Shillong, handed over 30 gunnies of brown rice to the 30 Battalion BSF, which were meant for the cattle.
Talking about the veneration of cows in Hinduism, JP Agarwal, head of the society, expressed his willingness to continue rendering such aids in future, too.
Meanwhile, PRO BSF Meghalaya UK Nayal, DIG, appreciated the effort of the society to keep the stranded cattle alive.
