SHILLONG, Jan 5: Opposition MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh has asked the MDA government to inform people before resorting to load shedding during winters.
Ruing the “random” load shedding regimen during winter without any prior notice, Lyngdoh said, “The government should have a proper plan and cannot just switch off power without informing the public.”
Asking the state government to take necessary action in regard to clearing pending dues to various firms for supply of power, she said people of the state also need to be mentally prepared for load shedding.
Questioning the frequent power cuts which last for as long as three to four hours, the MLA wondered why the city witnessed load shedding when several power stations were inaugurated lately. “Questions will have to be asked even if the government is uncomfortable” she said.
Last month, NEEPCO had regulated power supply for Meghalaya for some time but later withdrew after the power generation PSU agreed to the government’s ‘request’ to restore supply of power. MeECL has to clear dues amounting Rs 690 crore to NEEPCO.
