Exhibition-cum-sale of honey
MAWKYRWAT, Jan 14: The office of the District Horticulture Officer (DHO), Mawkyrwat, on Wednesday organised an exhibition-cum-sale of honey under the scheme ‘Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH)’ at the DHO office compound, Laitlawsang. South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, C Kharkongor, addressing the gathering as the chief guest, stressed on the importance of beekeeping for not only farmers but for one and all. She also beseeched farmers to avoid using sugar while processing the honey so that the output that people receive is pure.
Corona care centre vacated
TURA, Jan 14: The Pastoral Centre in Tura, which was operated as the district’s largest Corona Care Centre, was on Thursday vacated and handed over to the Diocese of Tura following the recovery of all the inmates. The facility was used as the corona care centre for nine long months during which, 608 COVID-19 patients recovered. Meanwhile, West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh expressed his gratitude to the Diocese of Tura for allowing the facility to be used as a corona care centre.
Plaint against one for threatening
SHILLONG, Jan 14: The president of Khasi-Jaintia National Union (KJNU), Niman Shadap, has filed a complaint with Ummulong Beat House against one Dapoiwanmi Laloo, for threatening the former. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Shadap said the members of KJNU intercepted two trucks bearing Assam registration number at Ummulong, which were carrying cattle to be smuggled into Bangladesh. Following this, according to Shadap, the Union filed a complaint in this regard. He added that Laloo claimed to be the cattle owner and demanded of Shadap to withdraw the complaint. “He threatened to kill me and my family. He also attempted to force me to his vehicle and I saw that he was having a pistol in his hand,” Shadap said.
