SHILLONG, Jan 22: Peeved at the failure of the state government to complete the construction of one of the residential schools at Mawtari Village in Ri- Bhoi under Myrdon Sirdarship, the community leaders of the area have demand of the government to either complete the construction or hand it over to the local authorities.
“We want to know the current status whether they are serious or not to complete the school. If the government is not serious, they will take it back as the land belongs to the Dorbar Shnong,” said Advisor of UDP Youth Wing, Donkupar Sumer, after meeting the education minister on Friday.
“If the government cannot utilise that land offered by the Dorbar Shnong, they will take it back and use it. As the lower primary (LP) school is congested, they will shift LP school to the residential school,” he added.
Sumer informed that the school project was initiated during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Mukul Sangma during which the Dorbar Shnong had donated 20 acre of land for its construction.
He, however, bemoaned that with the passage of time, the construction came to a halt with the hostel and quarters yet to be constructed.
Sumer further said that meeting with the education minister was fruitful.
It may be mentioned that a group of leaders which include members of from Raid Myrdon, Rangbah Shnong Mawtari, Sordar of Raid Myrdonand members of the UDP Youth Wing Ri Bhoi district had met the education minister on Friday.
