Construction worker killed in Ri Bhoi

NONGPOH, Jan 28: A 25-year-old worker, who was engaged in the ongoing construction work of the Dwarksuid Bridge at Umroi Bypass, was killed on Thursday after falling into the Umiam River.
According to a statement on Thursday, the worker, identified as Reno Thawmuid, fell into the river when he was trying to cross the bridge.
“As per sources, the incident happened at around 11:25 am on Thursday, when Reno Thawmuid was performing his duty as usual. As he was trying to cross the bridge through a bamboo, he fell into the Umiam River and drowned,” the statement said.
Although Thawmuid was rushed to Bhoirymbong CHC subsequently, the doctors declared him brought dead.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has, meanwhile, apprised Ri Bhoi Police of the tragedy.
