MAWKYRWAT, Feb 4: PHE Minister Renikton Tongkhar along with officials from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) and Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation (MGCC) inspected the temporary campus of JNV Mawkyrwat at Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat on Thursday.
Tongkhar, who is also the local MLA, had called for an emergent meeting which suggested that the JNV Mawkyrwat should go ahead with the 2021 academic session and that the government would have to prepare all the facilities within two months.
Speaking to media persons after the inspection and meeting, Tongkhar informed that the construction work at the permanent campus of the JNV Mawkyrwat is yet to be completed. He said that the MGCC has allotted the works to a contractor and that the fencing has been completed.
In view of the problems of accommodating students from Mawkyrwat in JNV Nongstoin, a temporary arrangement has been made under which JNV Mawkyrwat has been asked to start the academic session.
“It is understood that the existing facilities at Maharam Government Higher Secondary School are not enough to accommodate 120 students, teachers and staff of the JNV. We need to urgently construct extra buildings for the dining hall, a place to stay for students as well as teachers,” theMawkyrwat legislator maintained.
