TURA, Feb 5: A trader from Assam who was abducted in South Garo Hills four days ago was successful in escaping unharmed from their captivity on Friday morning.
The abductee, Nur Muhammad, reportedly fled from their captivity — a hideout located somewhere near Rongara, approximately 36 kms from Baghmara — and managed to reach the district headquarters and approached the police. “He escaped from their custody in the early morning and is now in safe custody with us. He will be united with his family shortly,” confirmed South Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, Priyanshu Pandey.
He said the escape comes a day after one of the criminals involved in the abduction was arrested.
So far, two gang members have been taken into custody, he informed. “One of the criminals was picked up from Ampati in South West Garo Hills and the second accused was arrested from Rongara,” informed Pandey.
The areca nut trader, Nur Muhammad, hailing from Mankachar town in South Salmara district of Assam, disappeared along with his vehicle on Tuesday.
