SHILLONG, Feb 5: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has constituted a special committee to prepare the party for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) elections slated for April 9.
Informing that the special committee has been empowered for the management of the election, UDP vice president Allantry F Dkhar said that it (special committee) will have the authority of the State Election Committee.
When asked how many seats the party is looking to contest in the elections, Dkhar refused to comment anything on the matter, saying that the process of identifying and receiving application from the candidates is on.
The special committee will take care of all election-related issues including the selection of candidates as well as campaigning ahead of the GHADC elections.
Informing that so far applications from interested candidates have been received in 15 constituencies, Dkhar said that most of the constituencies have more than one applicant.
He also informed that party leaders will leave for Williamnagar on February 12 to drum up support for the party.
