JOWAI, Feb 7: Thundershowers and hailstorms lashed parts of West Jaintia Hills on Sunday afternoon. Mihmyntdy, Khliehtyrshi and Mukhla areas along with their neighbouring villages were hit by hailstones.
The weather started to change between 2:30 and 3 pm as rain started pouring. Later, it was accompanied with thunderstorms and hailstones with the size larger than that of marble balls.
“There were no damages to household but the hailstones destroyed some of the vegetation,” said N Rymbai of Mihmyntdu village, adding that his poultry hut was also wrecked.
Due to hailstorms, the Jowai ByPass, which passes through Mihmyntdu, Khliehtyrshi and Mukhla villages, was covered with hailstones and the phenomenon even disrupted vehicular movement for few hours along the highway.
