SHILLONG, Feb 16: Cash-strapped Meghalaya government has found a miniscule relief after it managed to recover a sum of around Rs 90 crore against outstanding power bills from companies and industries in the state.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, while addressing a press conference, said, “In the last two months, after a notification was sent to companies and industries as well as large consumers who have not paid dues, the state government recovered close to Rs 90 crore which were pending for a course of over five years”.
The chief minister informed that due to the pendency, power supply to most of these units was disconnected. However, they subsequently cleared their dues.
“This process will continue and we will not allow power to be given to consumers, especially large commercial units and action such as disconnection of power, if bills are not paid in time, will be taken,” he asserted.
