TURA, Feb 27: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the state government soon will introduce a policy that will hone youths with ‘one skill and one talent’.
The chief minister made this announcement while speaking during the inauguration of the new block of the Industrial Training Centre (ITI), Tura.
Conrad, while addressing the gathering after inaugurating the new block, accentuated the importance of the ITIs.
“Technical and vocational skills training is an important aspect in skilling and empowering young people for the world of work,” the chief minister said.
Lauding the efforts of the Labour department, the chief minister said, “The Labour department, under Deputy Chief Minister, has been working tirelessly to bring reforms in the sector”.
Informing that 50,000 youths join the workforce every year, he stressed on the need to chalk out a plan for providing employment.
“Every year, about 50,000 youths join the workforce. Keeping the numbers in mind, we need to prepare a plan and strategy to be able to provide employment to these youngsters. We will introduce a policy that will empower and hone young people with one skill and one talent”, the chief minister said.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong announced that the state government has decided to increase the stipend for trainees from ITIs and other institutes.
He also encouraged the gathering to explore possibilities in the private sector.
“I urge the youths to not only wait for government jobs but get the necessary skills and explore possibilities in the private sector to open your own enterprises,” the deputy chief minister appealed.
