SHILLONG, March 2: Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, on Tuesday unveiled the much-awaited e-Challan Digital Traffic Enforcement Solution, which will firstly be implemented within the jurisdiction of Shillong Traffic Police (STP).
During his address, the home minister stressed on the need to sensitise the citizenry on the digital transformation in enforcing traffic rules within Shillong.
He also accentuated the need to impart training to the officials of the traffic branches so that they will be able to operate the e-challan system without causing any inconvenience to the public.
The e-challan system will be initially implemented within the jurisdiction of the STP and later across other districts.
Meanwhile, seeking cooperation from the public, the Meghalaya Police has informed that traffic officials of the STP will utilise the handheld Point of Sale (PoS) devices for traffic compounding and generating of digital challans.
Other senior officers who spoke in the programme were DGP R Chandranathan, Additional DGP (L&O/TAP) I Nongrang and DGP (SB/CID) H Nongpluh.
The e-challan system is a digital traffic enforcement solution whereby the process of imposing penalties on traffic violators and generating of challan will be done digitally.
Last month, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Meghalaya Police and the State Bank of India for implementation of the e-challan.
