SHILLONG, March 2: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh has informed that the party has huge prospects in the ensuing GHADC elections stating that there is a vacuum of a formidable regional force in the Garo Hills region.
“During my visit last month, I found that there is a huge vacuum of regional parties in Garo Hills. The people are looking for a regional party who has a presence across the state. The only regional party which exists in the entire state is the UDP. I think this is the right time to increase our presence in the region,” Lyngdoh told reporters here today.
Replying to a query, he admitted that there was feeling earlier that the UDP is a party which is based in Khasi and Jaintia Hills region. “But now things have changed. When I visited Bahgmara, the response was overwhelming and unexpected,” the UDP chief added.
When asked how many candidates the UDP will field for this election, he said that the party is likely to contest from at least 10 constituencies.
The UDP president informed that they have so far announced the name of three candidates.
It may be mentioned that the three contesters include Diana N Marak who will be contesting from Wagesik, Jadush M Sangma from Ringrikimgre and Devier M Sangma from Gasuapara.
He further informed that in the next few days the party will be announcing the names of the other candidates.
