SHILLONG, March 6: Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot has informed BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will set up a Sports Centre for Disability in Meghalaya.
According to Gehlot, the sports centre will help provide a base and nurture the potentials of the specially-abled and give them an opportunity to train and compete to the best of their abilities.
Shullai had called on Gehlot and Minister of State of Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, at their residence office in New Delhi on Friday.
Shullai, during the meeting, also raked up the issue of the OBC certificate holders not being recognised by various central universities and competitive examination-conducting commissions and bodies. “The OBC communities of Meghalaya are, thus, being denied their chance to avail the 27 per cent reservation in central government institutes and exams conducted by UPSC and SSC,” Shullai said.
The Union Minister has, meanwhile, assured of looking into the issue.
