SHILLONG, March 8: After the construction work of the Ayurvedic PHC at Saikarap in Shella was surrendered by the concerned contractor, Health Minister AL Hek, on Monday, assured the House that strict action will be taken against such contractors.
This assurance follows the demand by NCP legislator from Gambegre, Saleng A Sangma, during the Question Hour of the Budget session, for action against the contractor who was undertaking the works of the PHC at the village under Shella.
“We will definitely take action against the contractor,” Hek assured.
Replying to a query raised by MLA Balajied Kupar Synrem, the health minister informed that the construction of the Ayurvedic PHC at Saikarap is incomplete, while adding that construction of the main building, quarter and compound fencing have, however, been completed.
Speaking about the incomplete project, Hek said that the contractor, who was allotted work for construction of the ‘Nurses Quarter No. 1’ and ‘Therapist Quarter No. 2’ units, surrendered the work. However, re-allotment of the work to another contractor is under process.
“The work on the two units has been retendered. But nobody has come forward to participate in the tender,” Hek informed while replying to a supplementary question.
Earlier, Synrem had appealed to the government to take necessary steps in completing the project.
