Assam Rifles beat Lawmali SC

SHILLONG, March 12: Assam Rifles (AR) football team beat Lawmali SC in the final of the Assam Rifles Invitational Football Cup 2021 on Friday at Laitkor, Shillong. The enthralling final match saw the Assam Rifles team beat Lawmali 3-2 in extra time. With the win, the AR bagged a prize money of Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up team was awarded a sum of Rs. 50,000. The coveted tournament was launched in 2016 and since then it is being organised yearly by the Assam Rifles to promote the spirit of football in the North East region. This edition of the tournament witnessed participation of 12 premier football teams affiliated with Meghalaya Football Association, including the Assam Rifles team.
