SHILLONG, March 13: The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified vigil and stepped up anti-smuggling drive to thwart smuggling attempts along the porous Indo-Bangladesh borders in Meghalaya.
“BSF is adopting minimum use of restraint while exercising its power to seize various items at border and has taken proactive measures to maintain a cordial relationship with the border population,” Hardeep Singh, Inspector General of Meghalaya Frontier, said.
Only during the last week, the BSF personnel foiled a smuggling bid while confiscating items worth Rs 89,88,951 and apprehending one Indian and four Bangladeshi nationals in the connection.
Singh has also sought cooperation from the concerned ones for effective border management.
