SCL Super Division: NFU register thrilling win

SHILLONG, March 14: NFU managed to snatch a 2 wicket victory over Sputnik Spartan in a closely fought Shillong Cricket League Super Division match here on Sunday. Sputnik Spartan won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a respectable 239/6 in the allotted 35 overs. Kevin Christopher (80) and Prashant Ojha with 57 off only 25 balls rescued the Spartans after they lost wickets in quick succession. Bharat Gurung picked up 2/27 while Bapan Datta took a wicket for NFU. Chasing 240 for a win, NFU got off to a flying start, reaching 88/0 in the first 10 overs as they looked headed towards a comfortable victory. However, even the NFU top order witnessed a mild collapse before rain briefly interrupted play. Man of the Match Purojit Mondal with his 50 and Neetesh Sharma (48) stabilised the NFU innings as they inched their way towards the winning target. With 19 runs required off 12 balls, NFU’s Bapan Datta smashed two sixes in the 34th over as his side needed 6 off 6. The winning runs were scored in three balls as NFU registered a thrilling 2 wicket victory, making 243/8 in 34.3 overs.
