SHILLONG, March 15: The proposal for conversion of the Mawphlang-Balat Road into a standard two-lane road has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told the Assembly here on Monday.
“We are awaiting the Ministry’s response on the proposal,” Tynsong informed while replying to the question raised by Independent MLA from Mawphlang, Syntar Klass Sunn, during the Question Hour of the Assembly.
He further informed that the work for Mawphlang-Balat Road conversion under the World Bank-funded project was terminated since the road is now a national highway.
Tynsong also informed that the government will take up the development of the Weiloi-Mawsynram to Mawkyrwat road.
“The Weiloi-Mawsynram-Mawkyrwat road is crucial for the economic growth of the state,” the deputy chief minister said while replying to a query by Congress legislator from Mawsynram, HM Shangpliang.
