JOWAI, March 15: The Priang and Umsalait units of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) have filed a complaint with the Saphai Police Outpost over the deaths of two minors at Umsalait village in West Jaintia Hills. They have also demanded that the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) take the responsibility for the incident.
The two minor siblings — Ripynskhem Papeng (9) and Arbaban Papeng (2) — were, according to sources, electrocuted to death on Wednesday last after coming in contact with a live electric wire.
The KSU pinned the blame on the MePDCL, alleging that the incident happened due to its negligence.
Seeking legal action against the MePDCL, the Union said, “Due to that reason, we would like to urge the Police department to do the needful in addressing this issue at the earliest.”
