SHILLONG, March 15: Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, on Monday said that investigation into attempt-to-rape allegations on three women from Mawsikar village near Langpih by Assam Police personnel is still under way.
The home minister informed this while replying to a question raised by KHNAM MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, during the Question Hour of the Budget session.
Albeit the minister said he cannot assure as to when the probe will be completed, Rymbui said that a charge sheet will be filed as soon as evidence is collected. “It is the endeavour of the government that the safety and security of all the citizens are protected,” Rymbui said.
Earlier, Nongrum said that such an incident has not happened for the first time. He had expressed hope that the state government will take the matter seriously.
It may be mentioned that the three girls — aged 17, 18 and 20 years — were on their way to attend the evening church service on February 7 when the three accused allegedly followed them when they passed by the Assam Police camp at Mawsikar.
Subsequently, a police complaint was filed with Langpih Police Outpost by the relatives of the victims who had alleged that the Assam Police personnel had allegedly manhandled the girls and attempted to rape them while they were on their way to church.
