SHILLONG, March 21: The State BJP president, Ernest Mawrie on Sunday said that the saffron brigade will be fielding candidates in 21 of the 29 seats in the upcoming GHADC election slated for April 12.
Mawrie said that the party is not looking for any pre or post poll alliance. However, if need be, it will get the support of independent candidates after the poll, he added.
Informing that they received 25 applications to contest the poll, Mawrie said the party will however contest only for 21 seats, adding that four areas of the party’s organisational set up was not up to the mark.
Pointing out there is large-scale corruption and irregularities in the GHADC and be it the Congress or the NPP executive committee not administering proper governance, Mawrie said that they are looking forward for the support of the people of the Garo Hills region to bring in a new EC and the much desired change by giving them a chance.
“Our priority is to eradicate corruption from the GHADC and conduct detailed inquiry on the charges and whoever involved will not be spared,” said Mawrie if they are elected.
“How will the staff continue to work without salary? We will improve revenue collection of GHADC and the district council should get more share of revenue collected from minerals and not the state government,” he said.
On the current status of the party in view of the upcoming poll, Mawrie said that ground reports are giving them a positive feedback and things are looking promising for the party.
The 17 pint manifesto of the State BJP for the GHADC poll has laid emphasis upon empowering the GHADC by transforming it into a territorial council by giving it more power, creating more departments and channelising direct funding from the Centre by speeding up the proposed amendment to the Sixth Schedule.
