SHILLONG, March 21: Miffed with the state government’s response, a citizen has decided to approach the Centre with regard to reservation of 44 per cent for Scheduled Tribes (STs) to be appointed under Group C and D posts across all central government offices in Meghalaya.
According to the peeved individual, Arju Dkhar, the government has shifted its responsibility. “Since the government has shifted its responsibility in ensuring local youths are employed as per Government of India notification, as a responsible citizen of the state, I have no option but to take up the issue with Centre at my individual capacity for the interest of the locals,” Dkhar said.
Earlier, Dkhar had filed an RTI with the Centre on the matter. In reply to the RTI, it was mentioned that based on the 2001 census, STs of Meghalaya are entitled for job reservation of 44 per cent for group C and D posts in all Government of India offices, branches, zonal offices, defence establishment, central government PSUs etc, under the control of the Centre.
Soon after the central government’s reply, Dkhar had written to Meghalaya Chief Secretary MS Rao urging him to issue an official order for compliance by all concerned.
Nonetheless, Dkhar received a letter from state government asking him to take up the matter with the Centre as the issue is not under the administrative purview of Meghalaya.
