186th Raising Day of Assam Rifles
SHILLONG, March 24: The Sentinels of the North East on Wednesday celebrated the 186th Raising Day of the Assam Rifles during which the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Brig (Retd) BD Mishra, laid wreath at Assam Rifles War Memorial. According to a statement, 186th Raising Day was celebrated under the leadership of Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen. Sukhdeep Sangwan. “The celebrations attended by the Inspector Generals, Sector Commanders and the Commandants of units commenced at HQ DGAR, Laitkor, Shillong on 22 March with a grand Mandir programme followed by Annual Assam Rifles Commanders’ Conference and colourful cultural programme showcasing the rich heritage of the Force on 23 March and wreath-laying ceremony at Assam Rifles War Memorial on 24 March,” the statement said.

Certificate, skill-based courses
SHILLONG, March 24: Sankardev College has launched certificate and skill-based courses and the inaugural programme for it was held recently. According to a statement, the courses offered for the students include German learning, manufacturing and marketing of indigenous food sponsored by Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Meghalaya, and advanced diploma in computer application sponsored by the Shillong Centre of National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT). The college had also organised a felicitation programme recently for students who have completed training in front office associate under the PMKVY programme.

Hunt on for endangered owl seller
TURA, March 24: The Wildlife Divisions of East and West Garo Hills have sought the help of the public to track down a social media user who had reportedly put on sale an endangered wild species of owl. Pictures of a captured species of owl were posted on a Facebook group (OLX LOCAL TURA) by a social media user, Z Mrong M Marak, with a caption in Garo that read ‘For sale for Rs 500’. “Can anyone help us track this person? Your help and support is required to save the innocent bird,” the request made by the department from its official Facebook page said.
